To me this recipe is sweet enough and I don’t add additional sweetener. Some people do like to add fillings to the center such as granola, (see my homemade Super Seed Granola recipe) raisins, chopped nuts and maple syrup or honey to the center. And, I should also point out that my son has said when it’s served with vanilla ice cream it becomes his favorite dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple per person
  • Water
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Cinnamon

Directions:

  • Core apples almost to bottom, without going through.
  • Place apples in baking dish, adding approx. ½-1” water to the bottom so they don’t stick.
  • Fill the hollowed out apples ¾ with water, add cinnamon stick to each apple
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon
  • Bake on 350 until apples get soft and mushy (I like mine to split but that is a personal preference).

Note: You can use many different varieties of apples for this recipe. Although I love Granny Smith for almost everything, I prefer the sweeter ones for baking. I actually like to mix yellow apples with Fuji and Honeycrisp.
